Summer is fun

Friday night we had friends over for dinner, 6 friends. We talked until midnight then a subset of the group partook of the 39 ºC hot tub. They left at 02:20.

Then Saturday another guest, we watche Big Brown pull up in the Belmont dashing a 5 year old girls dreams of a triple crown winner…even though 5 short weeks ago she didn’t know what the sport of kings was. She cried, but got over it pretty quickly once she found out that he wasn’t going to die, like Eight Belles did when she didn’t win. That’s how new racing is for her. 🙂

So, we were up late watching Angel-A, the latest Luc Besson directorial effort. Very good.

Then today, all three mermaids and I went to Auburn and walked 3 miles for Cystic Fibrosis and, more specifically, for the daughter of a good friend. She is 18 months old. Then, the Luck O’ the Abby played it’s hand again and the very first item in the raffle went to us. It was a Nesco Roaster.

Then, still with undeniable energy we did some yard work, read some stories and now at 21:00 on Sunday the summer evenings have me awake and blogging.
I am tired, to be sure, but I will probably be up until after midnight doing something or other.

Summer is good. I can sleep in November.

  1. Nice day, good job on the roaster!

Your Great Grandma Noble had a roaster, I recall some very fine meals prepared in it, in fact your Grandma Z. has either her mother’s or a new roaster that produces similar results, or used to. Yummm, they do a good job of cooking those Dakota favorites of pot roast and roasted potatoes.

  2. GmaZ has the original Noble roaster. I saw it myself only a few weeks ago. It was built to last, but I think there is a problem with it and there are no replacement parts for 60+ year old roasters.

  3. The problem with that old, original Noble roaster (it is a NESCO!) is that the adjustable thermostat is jammed (welded?) so that whatever you cook, you cook at that temperature! Well, it is a pretty good temperature — if it was good enough for Great Grandma Noble, it ought to be good enough for the 21st Century!! And it is. The Grand Mother still prefers to use it rather than the new, somewhat larger one that I bought her 10-15 years ago. The smaller size fits the quantities she usually cooks, and besides, it is “set” to just the right temperature!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if I couldn’t install a new thermostat in it — if the Grand Mother would allow me to take it apart!!

  4. Oh that’s awesome! I didn’t know you won in the raffle! We had to leave to get my mom to work, but my friend Trina won the wine basket (Brian’s mom stayed with all of our tickets).

Thanks for coming out to the walk! It was great seeing the fam again! We should get together again (maybe when the weather’s nicer…if it’s ever warmer than Siberia).
