The Tarzan Experiment

My 19 month Tarzan experiment is officially over.
In case you are one of the few who HAVEN’T heard the story (and for posterity).

In August of 2012 I was sporting the clean look.
The Clean Look

TheWeeOne (age 5) and I were channel surfing and saw a mid 90’s TV show of Tarzan
ApeMan

She asked

Is that a girl?
No!
Why is his hair so long?
He’s Tarzan, he doesn’t have any scissors! (but apparently he does have a ray-zor and a waxing kit)

She paused for a few minutes and regarded this ape-man and then said

Hm, I like it…
(looking over at my bald head)
…you should do it.
OK!

I agreed and didn’t cut my hair one time; until yesterday.
It was interesting to note how it modified some of my self-perceptions.
Sometimes I felt scuzzy and sometimes I felt like I didn’t have a care in the world.
I didn’t analyze how I might have been treated differently but I’m sure there were lots of subtle differences.
A lady recently asked me on the street ‘You gotta cigarette?’.
It was certainly difficult to power through some of the bad-hair months between 6-10 and I’ve haven’t used THAT much shampoo in a decade.
I really don’t like the maintenance effort involved.
Pony-tails hurt your scalp and I woke myself up sometimes when I roll over on my hair in the night.
TheMommy REALLY didn’t like the look.
and
Right now? My head is cold.

Tarzan Experiment

700,000+ twelves!

Thanks to a little kick-in-the-pants from Schmub I pulled some strings with TheMommy (not very hard mind you) and took The Mermaids to downtown Seattle today for a little event, just a few people, some mellow cheering, it was sorta chilly –

annnnnnd if you believe that I have some Superbowl rings in Denver to sell you.

Just a few 12's at the North end of the route.

There were Batman and Riddlers on roller skates, crazy 12 year old boys with no shirts on running up and down the street, and Partybots?!
Partybots?

Whatever…

The girls were more or less happy in their “peep-hole” – a hole created in a seemingly endless sea of standing people known for it’s relevancy mostly to short people (height challenged) and children.

I gotta say, my immediate neighbors, were very courteous and Seattle-like. Ken (from Michigan) even helped guard my Mermaids from any way-wards – there weren’t any – and offered his shoulders as a platform for one of them should they need it – they didn’t.

After about an hour delay – and two more inches of frost-bite, the Hawks started rolling; first the receivers. I think that would be (L to R) Sidney Rice, Bryan Walters, Jermaine Kearse (Tacoma Native), and Doug Baldwin.
The Receiving Corps

Beast came along 1st actually – and you could tell he was smiling under his superhero-mask. I included this still from a video I took because I’m here to say that, somewhere Marshawn is reviewing his recording and when he does he will see me on his tape – just like I see him on mine.
The Beast

Yeah me and about 700,000 other crazies…but still.

It was quite the party – so much cheering – my voice hadn’t even recovered from the game, and now it’s back to square one, but I will certainly take today to the memory bank for a deposit; I hope The Mermaids can too.

UPDATE: Tony took in the sights from his office window – we couldn’t know how close to each other we really were because communication via cell and iMessage was largely unavailable; something about a crowd of people in the area.

Anyway – I knew I was close to him from the only text that got thru from TheMommy, and I even thought he might hear me start a cheer or two (which I did). But alas, he was indoors.

Here is where we were. I had NO idea there were so many people behind us!

Putting things into context

Great food, Great Friends, Great Game!

I know this is kinda late – in this information age.
BUT…

This blog serves to remind me (and you?), years from now, what was going on and when.
And this is certainly WORTH remembering, 2 days later or 2 years later or 2 decades later.

Much thanks to Tony and Apryl for hosting a killer Super Bowl party.
It was awesome to introduce The Mermaids to football at that level.

Great food, Great Friends, Great Game*.

* The last time my head hurt that much was from cheering at high-school football games!

Seahawks Champions!!!
