Malificent

Now I know why the evil fairie guarded a very vulnerable sleeping beauty with a thicket of thorns.

Because…
They might have tasted good in september

…even if the mighty hero successfully hacks his way through the thicket with his trusty sword (aka The Weed Hacker)…
Dr. Livingston's got nothin' on me

…he’d be too tired to take on the Guard Dragon.
Guarded by a wicket - not a thicket

Dining room happened

Yesterday – this happened.

Not a TRUE before picture – the ceiling faux-tray is already in place, the popcorn is gone, etc…but at least you get an inkling of the Sun King Gold shiny paint.
color me Louis The XIV

THE Mermaid painted all walls, and ceiling, including cutting in trim all day yesterday…twice.

Slate blue #2

I put up trim in the entry hallway, much less impressive to see in a photo.

Today…blackberries.

Some recent events

Yesterday – LaGrande and I took a twelve mile ride – her first on my original Silvio. She handled it quite well – all on the flats.
Still some swerving and loss of concentration but she is relaxing into it and managed to increase her peak speed three times during the ride – all on the flats.
First 17mph was her goal; done.
Then 19mph was her goal – she hit 20.
Then the last part segment of the day she was shooting for over 20 – she hit 22.
Beyond that her average speed was around 13mph.

Then, today, I took it upon myself to thin the herd in the front of the house.
Removed a lot of the juniper and other evergreens that were choking out their neighbors.
Essentially – we’re setting the stage for enabling some of the nicer ornamentals to fill out.
I’m exceedingly itchy tonight.

facelift continuation

I mentioned earlier, a facelift – all three bedrooms are completed and the popcorn is gone from all but a few closets.
No popcorn, no butter.

Aside from our weekend christmas present to see Mickey Mouse, pretty much all my free time has been consumed with getting the house setup to be here a while, and to host parties, and to have good wifi, and lights, and sinks, and – let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

With a sick WeeOne I now find some free time of an Easter morning.
I’ll post some pictures to whet the appetite and document progress.

First I’ll show an empty, finished product, of LaGrande’s room.
With the little fan – it’s got a bit of east coast beach house goin’ on.
LaGrande Cape Cod

The master bedroom had two, oddly solitary, coffers. (difficult to see here with all the lathe on the joists)
two coffer Ceiling...ah ah ah

So I though it would be a small matter to install two more coffers and then to cover the popcorn with bead-board.
FOUR coffer Ceiling - ah ah

After a false start using sheets of bead-board – heavy and ungainly as they were – I could tell it would come together nicely with 3′ 1/2″ strips.
rough-out

Then the trim, oh the trim! About 230 lineal feet of that corner bead.
HOLY CRAP that's a lot of trim

And the final color of wall paint…
Who knew brown would make white coffers look so good

…and it’s move-in ready now – as soon as my hands recover from tearing out all this freakin’ ivy!
guess that makes me a little lamb

Cleans up good!

getting the kitchen floor re-finished in prep for listing this week – cutting it a bit close for comfort (at least most people’s comfort) but THIS is pretty fantastic looking by any measure.

The bottom half of the picture below shows sanded-unfinished while the top half shows one fresh coat applied. Today coats 2 and 3 go on. No color added, letting the natural maple of these floors (from an old gym somewhere) show through. Cool.

It floored me

Gonna be walking on tippy toes in socks for a couple weeks before the newness wears off.
