Sidewalk rock garden

I’m up early this morning. After 30 minutes of trench digging I look up to see that a mermaid has planted a rock garden on my sidewalk for me.

It looks to me, they are relaxing
Stretching,
Indifferently observing my toil,
In the early morning light.

  1. It seems to me they are
    squat, soiled, stolid
    specimans, rounded with
    subserviance and stunned
    by the truth of the sun
    and the soft hand of the mermaid.

  2. I mean “subservience” my sub concious means “subserviance” because the “a” better suits the rock shape. :-}

  3. Hey! Does poetry substitute for work in placing those rocks where they eventually belong?

    If this site doth the artistic eye ultimately satisfy,
    Then let the hapless walker artfully watch his stride!
